F
OUNDER & PRINCIPAL LAWYER
“As a mother of twin boys, I understand that creating a Will and estate planning is more than about simply distributing your assets. It’s about passing on family values and traditions. It’s about protecting and creating a legacy for your loved ones.

The cost of not leaving behind your express wishes and instructions far outweighs any discomfort you may feel in thinking about creating your estate plan. My goal is to give you peace of mind, and to ensure that your estate is passed onto your loved ones in the way that makes sense for them while minimizing tax liabilities.”

EDUCATION & DESIGNATIONS

Katy was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997 with the third highest grade in Estate Planning. She obtained her Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation from STEP Canada in 2014. TEP is a globally recognized designation, formally identifying qualified practitioners and distinguishing them from non-specialists. Katy was STEP Canada’s 2014 Recipient of The Gerald W. Owen Book Prize for the highest overall mark, nationwide, in all four STEP Canada Diploma Courses.

Katy practiced income tax law at one of Canada’s top business law firms for a number of years. This invaluable experience allows her to analyze the income tax and probate tax implications of Wills, estate plans and estate administration decisions at a very high level. She started her own practice, Basi Law, in 2012.

Katy is widely recognized for her expertise and is a sought after speaker and writer on estate planning. Her articles have been published in STEP Inside, TheBluntBeancounter.com and TodaysParent.com, and she has been quoted in The Globe and Mail.
